How to attribute a call funnel, from ad click to closed deal

If you sell through booked calls, your most important conversion happens somewhere Google and Meta cannot see: on the phone, days after the click, recorded in your CRM rather than your website. That blind spot is why call funnels are so hard to scale profitably on paid ads, and why fixing it is such a large lever.

Why call funnels break attribution

A browser pixel can only see what happens on the website. In a call funnel the website is just the opt-in. The real events, the call booked, the call held, the deal closed, all happen later and elsewhere. So the ad platforms optimise toward what they can measure, which is form fills and bookings, not toward the deals that actually pay you. You end up with a calendar full of no-shows and tire-kickers because that is what you told the algorithm to find.

The chain you need to keep intact

Proper call-funnel attribution keeps one thread unbroken across every step:

  1. The ad click, with its click id, captured first-party when the visitor lands.
  2. The opt-in, tying that click to a lead.
  3. The call booked, and whether it was held.
  4. The deal closed in your CRM, with its value.

Hold that thread and you can finally see which campaigns fill the calendar with buyers and which fill it with no-shows, broken out by show rate and close rate, not just cost per booking.

The move that changes everything: optimise on closed revenue

The single biggest lever in a call funnel is teaching Google and Meta what a buyer looks like, not what a booking looks like. When a deal closes in your CRM, you upload that closed revenue back to the ad platform as an offline conversion, with the original click id attached, on the right delay so the click has registered. Now bidding chases people who close, not people who book and vanish. A browser-based tracker cannot do this, because it never sees the deal.

Marketing and sales, one number

The bonus is organisational. When pipeline value flows back to the campaign that sourced it, marketing and sales stop arguing over two different numbers and start reading the same one. The lead source is no longer a guess a rep types into a CRM field; it is the ad click, carried all the way through.

Trakt connects the ad click to the closed deal and uploads closed revenue to Google Ads offline conversions and the Meta Conversions API, so your call funnel finally optimises on revenue instead of ringing phones.
